1. The concept of overvoltage:

When the transformer in the box-type substation is running, if the voltage of the relay protection calibrator exceeds its maximum allowable working voltage, it is called the overvoltage of the transformer.

2. Classification of overvoltage:

Overvoltage will often cause great harm to the insulation of the transformer, and even cause insulation breakdown.

Overvoltage can be divided into two types: atmospheric overvoltage and operating overvoltage:

(1) Atmospheric overvoltage: when the transmission line is directly struck by lightning or thundercloud discharge, the overvoltage caused by the drastic change of electromagnetic field is called atmospheric overvoltage;

(2) Operating overvoltage: When the transformer or line switch in the box-type substation is closed or opened, the overvoltage generated by the oscillation and accumulation of electromagnetic energy in the system is called the operating overvoltage.
